Bio
Tommy Sasser brings over three decades of residential community and recreational development experience to the GGA Team. Tommy’s experience directing land development activities, managing design teams and developing business relationships are invaluable to GGA clients around the world. Golf course renovation and construction management (including feasibility and financial planning) are Tommy’s strengths. Tommy knows the best practices current to his field of specialty and maintains all key performance indicators for golf course construction and renovation.
Tommy has been involved in the design and/or construction of over 75 golf courses around the globe while serving in several positions – including Vice President of Planning and Development, Senior Vice President of Design, and President of the Nicklaus-owned golf course construction company – with various Jack Nicklaus companies. Following his work within the Nicklaus organization, Tommy spent several years, in the role of Vice President of Business Development, helping to establish Weitz Golf International as one of the leading golf construction companies in the US.
Tommy’s roots are deep in highly amenitized real estate developments. He has worked in many high quality master planned communities, including the Reynolds Plantation in Georgia for Linger Longer Development, Kiawah Island Company near Charleston, SC, and the Sea Pines Company at Hilton Head, SC.
A graduate of the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, Tommy has served as the President of the UGA’s Warnell Alumni Steering Committee. Previously he served two terms on the UGA Alumni Association Executive Committee for his alma mater. Tommy was named the Warnell School’s Distinguished Alumnus in 2013 for both his professional work and his dedication to Warnell. Tommy is a past president of the Golf Course Builders Association of America; he currently chairs the GCBAA Certification Board of Governors. Tommy was selected in 2015 to receive the Perry Dye Service Award because of his commitment to the GCBAA and its membership, his volunteer leadership, and his willingness to represent the Association and the golf course construction industry. He is a past member of the Recreational Development Council of the Urban Land Institute.
